The following map was created as the final project for GGIS 473: Digital Cartography & Map Design taught by Dr. Raechel Portelli at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the Fall of 2022.

The map was created as a tourism map for children so they may navigate around the National Mall. I used ArcGIS Pro to project the spatial data onto a canvas. I used energetic colors and a playful font to create a fun and lively map. I used color, scale, and shadows to establish visual hierarchy. If I had more time to work on this map, I would work on the spacing between labels and buildings on the map.
Fun facts about the map:
It was inspired by my younger sister who was 10 years old at the time I created the map.
All edges are rounded, so there is no sharp corner in the image.
All icons were created with the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator.
