UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHER, BIOMASS LAB

Conduct literature review of the intersection of supply distribution and social vulnerability in disaster relief literature
Develop a contextually appropriate vulnerability index for Puerto Rico using data from open data sources (NOAA, CDC, US Census Bureau, FEMA) using Python and R in collaboration with local nonprofit Caras Con Causa
Conduct research comparing various vulnerability models with household damages from Hurricane Maria data (2017) by census tract using distance measures (Euclidean distance, distance of means, distance of standard deviations), Pearson correlation, and a paired t-test using Python

Develop algorithm using Python to score input text with contextual influence assignments given a crowdsourced word bank that contains words that respondents associated with contextual influences
Develop and research a method that utilizes community leader interviews and drawing workshops with elementary school students to understand values of respondents’ community

Analyze survey results of 1000 respondents using Python to inform local disaster relief strategies
